How Green Hybrid Vehicles Work

Hybrid cars work differently compared to their solely gasoline or electric powered counterparts. Even though the goal of propelling the wheels is the same in a hybrid car, how it spins those wheels is unlike gasoline and electric cars which use just one source of power.Green Hybrid Cars

In a gasoline powered vehicle, gas is fed into the engine which turns the transmission then turning the wheels. Electric cars work roughly the same way as gasoline cars except electricity is used to turn the transmission instead of gasoline. Hybrid cars use both electricity and gasoline to propel the vehicle.

Although, hybrid cars can differ in how they operate. In a parallel hybrid, the electric motor and the gasoline powered motor work together to turn the transmission. This is different from a series hybrid in which a gasoline motor is used to turn the generator of the hybrid car. Regardless of how hybrid cars work, they almost always use electricity and gas as opposed to using just one or the other.

 

The main parts on hybrid cars include the gasoline engine and its fuel tank, as well as batteries used to charge the electric motor also found on hybrid cars. Of course, one cannot forget the transmission. These parts are found on both parallel and series hybrid cars. Generators are usually specific to series hybrid cars. Similar to the electric motor, with the exception that generators found on series hybrid cars are mainly used for producing electricity.

While in a parallel hybrid car the transmission is partly turned by the gasoline engine, in a series hybrid car the gasoline engine turns the generator and does not directly propel the car. The generator in series hybrid cars either power the electric motor or charge the battieries.

In a hybrid car both gasoline and electricity are used to power the car for a reason. By utilizing both resources, hybrid cars are more fuel-efficient and in turn, more friendly to the environment and yet aren’t as underpowered as pure electric cars are. The Toyota Prius, for example, is a hybrid car capable of fifty miles to the gallon of gasoline, and yet still maintains an impressive one hundred and fifty horsepower. Hybrid cars work for us, the environment, and our wallet. Surely these gasoline and electric powered hybrid cars will work for us and the environment and work for the next generation to come, all the while maintaining clean emissions.
