Four Reasons To Buy A Hybrid Car

When they first hit the showroom floors, hybrids were considered a novelty. Today, people think of them as the future of automotive technology. As consumers and governments turn a wary eye to the growing problems of pollution and other environmental issues, sales have surged dramatically. Below, you’ll discover the 4 most popular reasons why people are buying hybrid vehicles in growing numbers.

#1 – Going Green

The pollution that stains the skylines of all major cities has grown from a mild annoyance to an alarming health concern. A significant portion of that pollution is comprised of the exhaust generated by the vehicles which litter the roads. Emissions testing has tried to curb the problem, but more aggressive steps are needed to reverse it. Hybrids run cleaner. Drivers who are motivated to “go green” purchase them because their emissions contribute less to pollution.

#2 – Saving Money At The Pump

The vehicles got their name by generating power from 2 different methods: gas and electricity. Like older cars, they have a conventional gas-powered engine that requires fuel. But, pop the hood and you’ll find an electric motor, too. When motorists drive on freeways, a computer switches the gas engine on in order to power the car. However, when coasting, slowing down, or even driving on signal-littered city streets, the computer generates power from the electric motor, thereby saving gas. The less gas used, the fewer trips to the pump needed, helping the driver to save money.

#3 – Projecting An Image

There’s no denying that hybrid cars, trucks, and SUVs still carry an air of sophistication. The people who drive them are often considered environmentally conscious. Until these vehicles become the norm (which is still several years away), those who drive them will continue to enjoy being perceived as fashionably aware of the environmental pressures around us.

#4 – Taking Advantage Of Incentives

State and federal governments are keenly aware of the problem that pollution poses to large cities. To encourage drivers to purchase hybrids, they’ve offered a number of perks. Tax deductions were introduced first and then replaced with tax credits. Even though a few popular models have been removed from the eligibility list, many remain and drivers can take advantage of credits up to $3,000. Plus, some states allow drivers to use freeway carpool lanes (again, some models aren’t eligible).

The Future Looks Green

Most automotive experts expect that sales will continue to grow due to a couple of converging dynamics. First, government officials are becoming more aggressive in pursuing cleaner air. It’s likely they’ll pass legislation that encourages motorists to “go green” by buying these vehicles. Meanwhile, the technology used under the hood will become less expensive for automakers, thereby reducing sticker prices. In the end, millions of drivers will buy hybrids over the next decade, helping to bring the days of the sole gas engine to a close.

Consumer Tips on Buying Used Auto Parts

October 10th, 2008 by Hybrid Car Enthusiast

RICHMOND, Va., Oct 07, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) — The Internet is giving consumers who buy used engines or used transmissions for their cars or trucks better products, better value, better selection and new, cost-effective shopping alternatives. Joey Woodfin, chief executive officer of EverDrive LLC, a leading supplier of used car parts says that most consumers are not aware of the dramatic changes that have taken place in the used auto parts market in recent years and how much easier and safer it is to shop for and to buy everything from the smallest to the most significant auto part used.

Woodfin offers the following tips to consumers buying a used car part:

– First, consumers should buy used auto parts that are guaranteed by a warranty. “Many consumers dismiss used car parts, because they believe or they are told that the products do not have the same warranties that a new part would have,” said Woodfin. “That is not universally true. At EverDrive, we work with our suppliers to deliver high-quality parts and all our parts include at no extra cost a three-year unlimited mileage warranty that even covers labor.”

– Second, used auto parts are now available online and are accessible to consumers nationwide. Automotive parts recycling is today a $10 billion per year industry, and most recycling businesses use a computerized inventory system that allows them to quickly search for any part a customer needs. Companies such as EverDrive have developed relationships with parts recyclers nationwide, giving their customers access to more than 1 million parts via an easy to use website and the benefit of direct delivery to their doorstep.

– Third, used auto parts are also available at mainstream national auto parts retailers. Used parts can be ordered at any of the thousands of retail locations operated by Pep Boys, O’Reilly’s and AutoZone. Retail locations with service facilities can also install the used parts or the auto enthusiast can purchase the part and take it home to install.

– Fourth, a used car part makes original equipment parts more affordable and may increase the resale value of the vehicle. These used parts are Original Equipment Manufacturer Parts. “Because of the available inventory, consumers can match parts for cars that have been in the marketplace for some time,” said Woodfin. EverDrive’s inventory includes used car parts for makes and models as far back as 1980.

– Finally, purchasing guaranteed used parts helps the environment. By reducing the mining and processing of natural resources and eliminating production of new parts, consumers who request used parts for vehicle repair already help save an estimated 85 million barrels of oil annually.

About EverDrive. EverDrive LLC was started in 2003 and is based in Richmond, Va. The company can supply virtually any Original Equipment Manufacturer used part for domestic and imported cars, trucks or sport utilities made since 1980. Guaranteed parts may be purchased at the thousands of stores operated by its retail partners, who are leaders in the automotive aftermarket retail industry, or directly from EverDrive’s online catalog at www.EverDrive.com.

Is it time to buy a Hybrid car

September 9th, 2008 by Hybrid Car Enthusiast

Is it time to buy a Hybrid car?

With Gas prices rising and staying in the near $4.00 a Gallon mark, many people around the world as reconsidering purchasing a Hybrid car.

If you’re interested in ditching your gas guzzling vehicle in favor of a hybrid, be sure to consider whether or not it’s worth the cost. Keep in mind that you probably won’t get much money for your less fuel-efficient vehicle. Factor in, too, taxes and other fees that are involved. “It could take years worth of cheap fill-ups to recoup those costs, if you recoup them at all,” says AuWerter. Don’t let gas prices dictate your purchase.

Don’t let tax breaks influence the process either. “There’s a really great federal tax credit when it comes to hybrid cars, but… for starters, it doesn’t apply to all cars,” says AuWerter. Big tax discounts only apply to the first 60,000 cars sold by the auto maker; that eliminates Lexus and Toyota hybrids immediately. AuWerter adds that the Honda Civic is hovering dangerously close to the 60,000 mark, but there are other car companies that still qualify.
